When working in Revit there are three words that you will have to learn very well as you create and modify objects: family, type and instance. It is useful to really understand what these words mean and internalize their meaning. It will make your life easier as you discuss with others about an issue in Revit by using the correct word but most importantly it will help you to understand better the tutorial you will find online or the official documentation of Revit.
